Guardian, Eligibility
Generally any competent adult may be nominated to serve as the
guardian of the person for a
minor. Parents often consider family members or close friends who are
near to their own ages or who have children near in age to their own
children. Guardians are not required to be Pennsylvania residents or
have a family relationship with the minor.
A few Pennsylvania counties require nominated guardians to sign a consent
form stating that he or she is United States citizen capable of speaking,
reading, and writing English.
It is advisable to consult with each person you are considering in order to
determine their availability and willingness to serve before making your
will.
