Ascendant
Any person that is positioned directly above you on the family tree, such as parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Typically referred to as an "ancestor."
Ascendants do not include collateral heirs, such as aunts, uncles, great-aunts, etc., even though they are your ancestors.
