Community Property
A system of property ownership that grants each spouse equal ownership of most property that is acquired while the couple is married. Pennsylvania is not a community property state.
Arizona, California, Idaho, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin are currently the only community property states. Although not a community property state, Alaska provides spouses an option to elect this status by entering an agreement.
