Distribution
The personal representative's use of a decedent's assets for the payment of the decedent's obligations.

Pennsylvania uses the following order of distribution when the estate does not have sufficient assets to satisfy all obligations. The higher priorities are paid first with any remaining assets being used to pay the next lower priority until all of the estate assets are depleted.

1. Administration expenses; 2. Family exemption; 3. Funeral and burial costs, medical services provided within six months of death; 4. Cost of a gravemarker; 5. Rent owed for the decedent's residence during the six months prior to death; 6. Claims by the Commonwealth, such as death taxes; 7. All other claims, including testamentary gifts.

The payment at each level is subject is also subject to any legal preference for obligations to the United States.
