Per Stirpes
A legal system that controls the distribution of
testamentary gifts or
intestate property intended for
a beneficiary or
heir who does not survive the
decedent.
Per stirpes distributes all such property to the
issue of each respectively deceased
beneficiary or heir, which typically causes the property to be given to the
children and grandchildren.
