Guardian, Eligibility
Generally, any competent adult may serve as the
guardian of your person or
the guardian of your estate.
However, any person or entity who
provides residential services to an
incompetent individual for a fee
can only serve as
guardian when it is shown that no
one else is available.
Certain counties also require a guardian to sign a consent form indicating
that he or she is a United States citizen capable of speaking, reading, and
writing English. If you are considering any person who does not meet these
conditions, you are encouraged to contact the
Orphans' Court for your county
of residence and ask about their requirements before making the nomination.
